A 29-year-old Florida man is in custody after allegedly admitting to the violent killing of his grandmother following a dispute at her home. Nicholas Leonard Ivey was arrested Monday in Indian River County following a welfare check at a residence on Fairways Circle.

Deputies arrived at the scene after Ivey’s father reported receiving a call from his son stating that 76-year-old Patricia Dibella was dead. Upon discovery of the body, Ivey reportedly told investigators that he killed Dibella after she “poked” him with a steak knife.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Ivey detailed snapping the woman’s neck and stomping on her head before cleaning the scene and using her credit card to buy beer and cigarettes.

While the death investigation remains ongoing, Ivey is currently charged with grand theft auto, criminal use of an ID, and fraudulent use of a credit card. He is being held on a $400,000 bond pending a March 10 court appearance.
