A 33-year-old Florida man is behind bars after intentionally striking a woman with his car, then proceeding to choke her on a causeway.
According to deputies, at approximately 2:00 pm on November 18, 2021, deputies responded to the area of Pineda Causeway just east of I-95, in Brevard County, after an emergency 911 call was received stating that 33-year-old, Daniel Patregnani of Clearwater, Florida, had struck a woman with his vehicle.
The caller told dispatchers that Patregnani was also on top of the woman choking her.
Deputies arrived to find the victim seriously injured and Patregnani being restrained by off-duty law enforcement officers who were driving by the incident and stopped to assist.
Deputies say that the investigation thus far has revealed that Patregnani and the victim were in a vehicle on the Pineda Causeway.
At some point, the victim exited the vehicle and began running from the area. Patregnani drove across lanes of traffic, towards the victim, and intentionally struck her.
Patregnani then exited the vehicle, naked, and dragged the victim on the ground, striking her with his fists and choking her.
The off-duty law enforcement officers came to the aid of the victim, detaining Patregnani until the arrival of deputies.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, where she remains in critical, but stable condition following emergency surgery.
Patregnani was also transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released, after which he was served with the arrest warrant and transported to the Brevard County Jail Complex.
