A wanted felon known by the moniker “Rambo” may have bitten off more than he could chew—literally—when he tried to make his drug evidence disappear during an arrest.

Matthew Raymond Rambo, 58, of Hobe Sound, was already facing an active warrant from a recent Special Investigations Division case when the Martin County Sheriff’s Office located him driving along US1. When deputies gave him the “bad news” that he was under arrest, Rambo’s response was highly unconventional: he started to eat.

Deputies noted that Rambo was displaying symptoms consistent with ingesting narcotics. During the chaotic takedown, Rambo was attempting to destroy evidence by swallowing a significant amount of crack cocaine.

Once transported to the hospital for treatment, Rambo admitted to medical staff that he had swallowed roughly an ounce of crack cocaine in a desperate effort to get rid of the evidence.

Despite his dramatic—and dangerous—attempt at disposal, detectives found plenty of evidence left behind in his vehicle, including 9.7 grams of crack cocaine and various drug paraphernalia. Authorities also recovered cash and a firearm.

After receiving medical treatment and being cleared by hospital staff, Rambo was released and booked into the Martin County Jail.

The culinary fugitive now faces an array of charges, including his outstanding warrant, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Resisting Without Violence.

This time, it looks like “Rambo” won’t be able to just chew his way out of trouble.
