A 69-year-old Florida man is behind bars as of Friday following a digital sting operation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Jeffery Howard Oppold was hit with 15 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material after investigators allegedly tracked illegal file-sharing activity back to his home.

The case began just before the new year, on December 30, 2025, when FDLE agents were monitoring a peer-to-peer network specifically to find people distributing and downloading illicit content.

They eventually flagged an IP address that was actively pulling down files. Following that digital trail led them straight to Oppold.

By January 27, state agents, backed by the FBI and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, moved in to serve a search warrant at his residence.

Once inside, authorities grabbed an electronic device that was later handed over to digital forensic experts. A deep dive into the hardware reportedly turned up several files of child sexual abuse material. Oppold was arrested and booked into the Lee County Jail.

This case is part of a larger, ongoing effort by the FDLE to scrub these types of materials from the web and hold those responsible accountable. Moving forward, the case will be handled by Attorney General James Uthmeier’s Office of Statewide Prosecution.
