A trip to the grocery store ended with a life-changing surprise for a Miami man. Pierre Khawly, 49, visited the Florida Lottery’s Miami District Office to claim a $1 million prize from the 500X THE CASH scratch-off game, the Florida Lottery announced Tuesday.
Khawly bought the winning ticket at a Publix located at 831 Village Boulevard in West Palm Beach. According to lottery officials, he decided to take his winnings as a single, lump-sum payment of $640,000.00 rather than installments.
The $50 game that Khawly played has gained attention for its massive scale. It features a top prize of $25 million, which the Florida Lottery notes is “the largest ever offered on a Florida Scratch-Off game.”

Officials also highlight that the game provides “the best odds to become an instant millionaire.”
The 500X THE CASH game carries a total of more than $1.66 billion in available cash prizes. For those trying their luck, the Florida Lottery lists the overall odds of winning any prize in the game at 1-in-4.23.
While the top-tier prizes are rare, Khawly’s win adds him to the growing list of residents who have found success with the high-stakes ticket.
