Authorities have launched a multi-agency search for 31-year-old Travis Merrell, a man now classified as a wanted fugitive following a disturbance earlier this month in Punta Gorda.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), working in tandem with the United States Marshals Task Force, is leading the effort to track down Merrell in connection with an isolated event that occurred on March 8.
The incident reportedly took place at the Pilot Gas Station located on Jones Loop Road. While officials have not released specific details regarding the nature of the confrontation at the station, they have issued a warning to the public regarding Merrell’s potential for violence.
Law enforcement representatives explicitly stated that Merrell is “considered to be armed and dangerous” and should not be approached.

Merrell is the subject of an active search that has now extended beyond local jurisdiction through the involvement of federal marshals. Investigators are currently leaning on the community for leads that could point to his current whereabouts.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the CCSO non-emergency line at (941) 639-2101. For those who wish to provide tips without revealing their identity, Crime Stoppers is accepting anonymous reports at 1-800-780-8477.
