A 36-year-old Miami mother faces a felony child abuse charge this week after authorities say her teenage son was forced to undergo an emergency liver transplant.

Edmonde Devalon was taken into custody on February 17, 2026, following an investigation by local police. According to a sworn arrest affidavit, Devalon’s 15-year-old son suffers from a chronic liver disease that requires daily medication. Investigators allege that the teen went without his life-saving prescriptions for approximately six months.

The medical neglect reportedly led to total organ failure. Doctors informed investigators that the boy’s condition became so critical that he required an immediate transplant to survive.

Court documents state that after being read her Miranda rights, Devalon admitted to Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office investigators that she had stopped providing the medication around the middle of last year. She reportedly told officers she felt “overwhelmed” by the responsibilities of caring for her multiple children.

The arrest took place at a medical facility on NW 12th Avenue in Miami. Devalon now faces one count of aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm, a second-degree felony.

The teen’s current medical status following the transplant surgery has not been publicly released.
