Season Closes June 30, Reopens May 1, 2026
Anglers in Florida’s Atlantic state waters are reminded that the recreational harvest of red porgy will close on July 1, 2025. The last day for recreational harvest of this popular reef fish will be June 30, 2025.
The season for recreational red porgy in Atlantic state waters will reopen on May 1, 2026. This annual closure is implemented to help ensure the sustainability of the red porgy stock, which has been identified as overfished and undergoing overfishing. Consistent regulations between state and federal waters are crucial for effective fisheries management and conservation efforts.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has been aligning its regulations with federal guidelines to support the rebuilding of the red porgy population. These measures include a recreational bag limit of one fish per person/day during the open season.
Anglers are advised to plan their trips accordingly and adhere to all regulations to help conserve Florida’s valuable marine resources for future generations.
