Following a recent House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing, Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) accused Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison of not only ignoring massive fraud within their state but actively suppressing those who tried to expose it.

Appearing on Newsmax’s Wake Up America, Donalds detailed findings regarding the alleged misuse of funds in Minnesota, specifically involving remittances sent to Somalia.

According to the Florida Congressman, the oversight inquiry revealed a dual failure: a domestic cover-up and a potential international security threat.

Donalds told viewers that the most shocking discovery wasn’t just the fraud itself, but the administration’s response to it. He alleged that top state officials, including Walz and Ellison, were aware of the illicit activities and failed to intervene. Going further, Donalds claimed the administration engaged in the intimidation of state employees to keep the scheme under wraps.

“The Walz administration was intimidating whistleblowers who work for the state of Minnesota… threatening their careers to stop them from coming forward,” Donalds said.

The Congressman also drew a direct line between the stolen funds and global terrorism. He explained that money leaving Minnesota for Somalia often moves through the “hawala network”—an informal method of transferring money without physical movement of cash. Citing reports available to the committee, Donalds warned that this network is accessible to Al-Shabaab, the largest al-Qaeda affiliate in the region.

“We know money is fungible,” Donalds noted, suggesting that taxpayer dollars meant for aid could effectively be subsidizing foreign terror cells. “These dollars going back overseas could in fact end up in the hands of foreign terrorist organizations… That’s damning.”

Donalds concluded his remarks by placing the burden of the scandal squarely on the Governor’s desk.

“Governor Walz had a responsibility to put a stop to this,” Donalds said. “Not only did he not put a stop to it, he intimidated people who were trying to put a stop to it.”
