Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) appeared on CNN’s News Central PM to voice his full support for President Donald Trump’s approach to ending the war in Ukraine and his hardline strategy against South American drug cartels.
Speaking after a meeting between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House, Congressman Donalds expressed “full faith” in President Trump’s ability to broker a peace deal in the ongoing conflict.
“I have full faith that President Trump is going to do what is necessary to bring this war to an end like he’s brought so many other wars and conflicts around the globe to an end,” Donalds stated. He argued that Trump has “definitely earned that credibility from the American people and quite frankly from leaders around the world.”
The Florida Republican advised granting the Commander-in-Chief “a lot of room to operate” and to avoid commenting on specific military details, such as the use of Tomahawk missiles, to allow for open negotiations with both Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He stressed that the primary goal is to “bring the war and frankly the deaths and the killings to bring all that close,” noting the conflict has gone on “far too long.”
Zero Tolerance for Drug Trafficking
Congressman Donalds also backed the Trump administration’s commitment to aggressively interdicting drugs flowing into the United States from South America, calling it a priority to protect Americans.
“I think the number one goal is to make sure there isn’t drugs and other product that’s coming into the United States illegally that is either killing our people or harming our people,” he asserted.
Donalds singled out the influence of drug cartels in Venezuela and other countries, stating that President Trump is “going to be very firm on this” because the American people are being “directly harmed.” He warned that foreign entities who attempt to challenge the administration’s resolve on this issue will learn a lesson.
“Other nations and other people have really tried to figure that out over time and they found out the hard way that Donald Trump isn’t playing games,” Donalds concluded, emphasizing the need for the President to have a “wide breath” of action in defending the nation against the drug scourge.
