Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) appeared on Westwood One’s Rich Valdés America at Night to sharply criticize the rhetoric of Democratic politicians and reflect on the enduring influence of the late conservative activist, Charlie Kirk.

During the interview, Donalds asserted that conservatives must actively combat what he termed the “insanity” of the political left, emphasizing the need for reasoned argument and steadfast refusal to compromise on conservative principles.

“You have to stand firm against the left. You have to have sound arguments for why they are wrong, and you cannot yield to their insanity,” Donalds stated.

The Congressman accused the left of employing “totalitarian” tactics, claiming they “will dehumanize anyone” and “make it appear as if you’re a very threat to our constitutional republic simply because you disagree with their crazy ideas.” He cited the treatment of President Donald Trump as an example of this strategy, which he noted “didn’t work.”

A Call to Carry Kirk’s Mantle

A significant portion of the discussion was dedicated to eulogizing Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, who Donalds called “one of the most important people to the conservative movement in the last 40 years.”

Donalds praised Kirk’s success in engaging young people and creating the influential organization, a feat he said Republicans had long struggled to achieve.

Reflecting on Kirk’s passing, Donalds urged the conservative movement to rally and continue his work. “At this time where he’s no longer with us, we all have to step up and carry the mantle that he’s left for us,” Donalds said.

He characterized Kirk’s approach as a model for the future, highlighting his ability to stand firm on his positions while remaining “highly respectful of your opponents even though you think their arguments are crazy.” Donalds maintained that Kirk was “assassinated” for his principled disagreements, stating, “That’s how crazy and perverse the left has come.”

Donalds concluded that embracing Kirk’s respectful yet resolute approach is the “path forward” for the conservative movement.
