Florida Rep. Byron Donalds Locks Down Majority Support From State Sheriffs In Bid For Governor

The campaign for Florida Rep. Byron Donalds reached a new milestone today as Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford officially endorsed his bid for Governor. With Ford’s announcement, Donalds now holds the formal backing of 38 Florida sheriffs, representing a majority of the top law enforcement officials across the state.

Sheriff Ford, a veteran of the force, cited Donalds’ track record on public safety and his alliance with President Trump as primary factors for his support. Ford noted that the congressman understands the specific needs of those on the front lines of law enforcement.

“I’m proud to endorse Byron Donalds for Florida Governor,” Sheriff Ford said. “After decades in law enforcement, I know what it takes to keep our communities safe, and I know the kind of leadership that makes it possible. Byron understands that standing behind our men and women in law enforcement is the foundation of safe neighborhoods, thriving families, and strong communities. He’s committed to giving law enforcement the tools and resources we need to do our jobs effectively and get home safe at night. Byron has already proven his commitment to public safety, working alongside President Trump to strengthen public safety nationwide, and I have no doubt he will bring that same dedication to Tallahassee.”

This latest endorsement expands a coalition that already includes high-profile figures such as President Trump and Elon Musk.

Within the state’s political infrastructure, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds has secured support from 17 members of Florida’s Congressional delegation and 75% of the Republican caucus in the Florida House, along with U.S. House Leadership.

The organizational momentum is reflected in the campaign’s recent financial reports. Donalds reported a record-breaking $22 million haul for the first quarter of 2026.

These figures, combined with the steady stream of law enforcement endorsements, currently place Donalds at the front of the field among both Republican and Democratic candidates vying for the governorship.
