Florida Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds joined Donald Trump Jr. on a recent episode of the “Triggered” podcast to discuss his campaign platforms, state affordability, and his perspective on the upcoming gubernatorial race.
Trump Jr. introduced Donalds by emphasizing the national weight of Florida’s gubernatorial contest. He noted that his father, former President Donald Trump, endorsed Donalds for governor last year. Trump Jr. added that Donalds has built support among state law enforcement groups and Republican state legislators.
During the episode, Donalds addressed rising living expenses, specifically targeting the high cost of property insurance for residents.
“We’ve got to get our insurance costs down,” Donalds said during the interview. “Everybody’s having to deal with it. We want to make sure that we’re changing up some of the regulatory tools to make costs go down for the people of Florida.”
Donalds also spoke about the steady migration of new residents to Florida from states like California and New York. He noted that moving to the state comes with a civic obligation.
“It’s not just moving for a job or I’m just going to go retire now,” Donalds said. “I think that’s why we’ve been able to see people come down and understand that they have a responsibility to keep the place that they chose the way that it’s been.”
Looking ahead to the general election, Donalds discussed his potential Democratic opponent, former U.S. Representative David Jolly, warning voters about Jolly’s moderate campaign approach.
“He’s going to be running the same campaign that Abigail Spanberger ran in Virginia, the same one Katie Hobbs ran in Arizona, where it’s going to sound milquetoast,” Donalds said. “So he’s a Trojan horse, and I think it’s important for the people of Florida to know that.”
