In an interview on Fox News, Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) honored the legacy of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and condemned what he called “dangerous rhetoric from the left” following Kirk’s untimely death.

“You’re not gonna replace him [Charlie Kirk]. What we can do is honor his legacy and pick up the mantle that he’s left for all of us,” Donalds said.

The congressman credited Kirk with leading a revival of conservatism among young people, stating that the Republican Party and the conservative movement “would not be as successful as it is today without the impact of Charlie Kirk.” He described Kirk as a “one of one” who dedicated his life to sharing conservative and Judeo-Christian values, particularly on college campuses where he believed these discussions were being left out.

In the interview, Donalds also addressed the political climate, asserting that the rhetoric used by some Democrats is dangerous. He connected the tragic event involving Kirk to other incidents of political violence, including the shooting of his colleague, Steve Scalise.

“What happened to Charlie Kirk is because of the dangerous rhetoric from the left,” Donalds said. “When you try to call us Nazis or fascists… it’s simply not correct.”

Donalds emphasized the importance of political civility, stating that while strong disagreements are part of politics, dehumanizing opponents can lead to violence.

“When you dehumanize your political rival, what you end up doing is you put them in harm’s way from people who are deranged,” he said. The congressman concluded by stressing the need for all public figures to be able to go home safely to their families, regardless of their political affiliations.
