Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) leveled sharp criticisms against the Democratic Party’s approach to legislation and the ongoing political battles in Washington during an appearance on Newsmax’s Greg Kelly Reports.
The discussion ranged across several hot-button issues, including the threat of a government shutdown led by Senator Chuck Schumer, the long-term failures of ObamaCare, the recent legal proceedings involving former FBI Director James Comey, and President Donald Trump’s diplomatic success in securing a new Middle East peace deal.
Critique of Affordable Care Act and Shutdown Standoff
The Florida representative zeroed in on the legislative tactics of Democrats, particularly in the context of the looming government shutdown and the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

“The Democrats don’t care about putting forward common-sense policy that actually helps; they care about weaponizing policy so that they can win elections,” Donalds stated. He accused Democrats of holding the government “hostage” for an additional $1.5 trillion in spending while simultaneously attempting to sustain the ACA, which he labeled “the worst health care policy the nation’s ever seen” due to soaring deductibles and premiums.
Donalds argued that the ACA is an “oxymoron” and that Democrats deliberately avoided making premium tax credits permanent when they had full control of Washington. This, he suggested, was to retain a “weapon” to “wield politically against the backs of the American people.”
Comey and the Rule of Law
Turning his attention to the legal saga of former FBI Director James Comey, who recently pleaded not guilty to charges, Donalds was unequivocal about accountability.
“My thought is simple—nobody’s above the law. That’s what James Comey tried to tell us,” Donalds asserted, referencing Comey’s past lectures on the topic. The Congressman emphasized that if the indictment alleging Comey lied to Congress is accurate, he should be prosecuted “just the way James Comey is being prosecuted now.” He concluded by calling for political rivals to be held accountable, comparing it to how “they wielded the justice system to go after their political rivals.”

Trump as the “President of Peace”
Finally, Congressman Donalds praised President Trump’s efforts in securing a new peace deal in the Middle East.
“Donald Trump is the president of peace,” Donalds declared, noting the president’s commitment to peace “not just in the Middle East, but all around the world.” He stated that the President “should definitely be acknowledged by the Nobel Committee and everybody else once and for all.”
Donalds expressed hope that the new agreement would hold, resulting in the return of hostages and achieving “real security in the Middle East for Israelis and their families.”
He contrasted Trump’s successful diplomacy with earlier media narratives, recalling that the “lame stream media and Hillary Clinton” had falsely claimed a Trump presidency would lead to “world war three.”
