In an appearance on Newsmax’s Carl Higbie Frontline Monday, Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) wasted no time tearing into the current Democratic platform while laying out a stark ultimatum for his own party regarding federal spending.

Donalds, a prominent member of the House Freedom Caucus, dismissed Democratic critiques of the current administration, suggesting their opposition stems from a loss of political control rather than policy substance.

“Look, the Democrats have nothing to run on. Can we just cut to the chase? They’re just mad that they’re not in power,” Donalds told Higbie. He argued that the economic indicators under Donald Trump’s leadership—specifically wage growth adjusted for inflation and gas prices dipping below $3 a gallon—prove the effectiveness of the “America First” agenda.

“Promises Made, Promises Kept”

Donalds painted a picture of a stabilized nation, contrasting current border security metrics with the previous administration’s record.

“There are no illegal entrants into the United States of America,” he claimed, calling it a “very different world” from the Biden era.

While acknowledging that affordability concerns linger for many Americans, Donalds insisted that patience is key as prices stabilize. He characterized Democratic claims of having a better solution as a “bold-faced lie,” asserting their only real policy is opposition to the former president.

The Fiscal Fight: A House Divided

The conversation took a sharp turn toward internal GOP politics when the topic of the national deficit arose. Donalds outlined a specific strategy championed by the Freedom Caucus: a return to pre-COVID spending levels. According to the Congressman, this single move—adjusted for inflation—would slash the federal deficit by nearly $750 billion.

However, he admitted the biggest hurdle might not be the opposition party, but his own colleagues.

“We have Republicans on Capitol Hill who don’t want to do what’s necessary and cut this fat out of this government,” Donalds said frankly. He noted that getting the “fiscal house in order” requires political courage that some in the GOP currently lack.

Targeting the Filibuster

Perhaps most notably, Donalds voiced support for President Trump’s controversial suggestion to remove the Senate filibuster. He argued that the 60-vote threshold has become a shield for inaction, preventing necessary budgetary restructuring that could secure the nation’s financial future for the next two centuries.

“If you’re going to get 60 votes in the United States Senate just to clear debate… the Democrats want no part of it, and we have some Republicans who want no part of it,” Donalds concluded. “You’ve got to get serious about the fiscal future of America.”
