Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) appeared on Fox Business Network’s Varney & Co. this morning to defend the Trump administration’s focus on affordability and to condemn Democratic efforts to target private donations for the White House ballroom.

Donalds asserted that the President and Capitol Hill Republicans are deeply committed to tackling economic issues, particularly inflation, which he attributed to the previous administration.

“I know the president is focused on affordability; we are on Capitol Hill,” Donalds stated.

He highlighted several legislative measures designed to boost the economy and put more money in Americans’ pockets, including eliminating taxes on tips and overtime and securing 100 percent expensing for businesses to encourage investment.

“There’s a lot of damage we had to unwind from the Biden administration, where we had double digit inflation for multiple years… People are going to be able to keep more of their money, no tax on tips, no tax on overtime. That’s stuff that we passed to get the president’s agenda done.”

The Congressman expressed confidence that the current downward trend in costs, driven by the President’s actions, will become clearer by the time of the midterms.

Turning to the Democrats’ bill concerning private donations for the new White House ballroom, Donalds was sharply critical, calling the effort “stupid” and a distraction from real issues facing the country.

He argued that Democrats have “lost their minds, they’ve lost the plot” by focusing on political attacks rather than practical problems like housing affordability and the cost of raw construction materials.

Donalds connected this behavior to broader legislative gridlock, suggesting that the need to consider paying air traffic controllers during government shutdowns is a result of Democrat obstruction.

“The reason why that’s even having to be considered is because of Democrat obstruction, because they are obsessed with Donald Trump as opposed to doing their job on behalf of the people of the United States of America.”

The Florida Republican concluded that the partisan focus of the Democrats demonstrates why he supports eliminating the Senate filibuster, arguing that they “are not serious; they’re focused on politics.”
