Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) joined the Fox Business Network program Varney & Co. this morning to discuss his unexpected inclusion on the 2025 TIME100 Next list, and unleashed sharp criticism against the Democratic Party, accusing them of prioritizing “power” over morality in their continued support for Virginia Attorney General candidate Jay Jones.
The interview focused heavily on recent revelations regarding the Virginia AG candidate, who was reportedly found to have sent text messages expressing a desire for a political rival to die.

“Because the Democrats want power in Virginia, that’s why,” Donalds said when asked about the party’s continued backing of Jones. “They’re not going to call him to drop out because they’re more concerned that if he does drop out… How are you going to be leading a state when you’re actually texting people wanting your political rivals to die? That’s craziness.”
The Florida Congressman argued that the Democratic Party’s strategy is to only abandon a candidate when an electoral victory becomes impossible, drawing a parallel to the circumstances surrounding a former president.
“I think what’s going to happen here is that when it is crystal clear that this guy can’t win then they’ll throw him overboard and that’s really sick,” Donalds stated. He concluded his critique with a forceful denouncement of the party’s values: “It demonstrates the lack of moral clarity in the Democrat Party. If you can’t get somebody out of a race who wished that a political rival would die. This is nuts, Stu, but that’s the Democrats for you. America, you cannot trust these people. They do not care about the lot and the lives of normal people. They only care about power.”

The Congressman’s appearance also touched on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s recent attacks on White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, though details of that specific exchange were not immediately provided in the release.
On a lighter note, Donalds took a moment to reflect on his recent recognition by TIME Magazine on their annual TIME100 Next list, which honors 100 emerging leaders shaping the future of various fields.
“I’ll be honest with you, Stu, I was a little surprised [and] it’s a high honor,” Donalds confessed. “Honestly, as a Republican, as a conservative – never thought I would ever be on any list that Time Magazine put out.”
He dedicated the recognition to his mother, who was a longtime subscriber to the magazine. “I texted my mom about it because my mom subscribed to Time Magazine for years as a kid. So I said, mom, this one’s for you. It’s really an honor. I’m proud of it, but I give that one to my mom.”
