Florida Congressman Byron Donalds (R) took to Fox Business Network’s The Evening Edit on Tuesday to deliver a sharp critique of Democratic foreign policy and issue a blunt ultimatum to the Cuban government.
During the segment, Donalds focused on what he described as a lack of consistency from his colleagues across the aisle regarding Middle Eastern security and the future of the island nation just 90 miles from his home state.
Addressing the current friction involving Iran, Donalds accused Democrats of shifting their stances based on political optics rather than national security. “The Democrats, once again, like to just change their opinions simply because they just want to oppose Donald Trump,” Donalds stated. He argued that this approach ignores the broader threat Iran poses to Israel, the Middle East, and European allies.

According to Donalds, the opposition is prioritizing “political positioning” over a unified front.
“They don’t want to have a consistent policy… They would rather play politics with what’s going on as opposed to doing the right thing, and that is actually standing behind the President,” he said, specifically contrasting current rhetoric with past statements from figures like Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Chuck Schumer.
The conversation then shifted to the Caribbean, where Donalds expressed firm opposition to the ruling Communist Party in Cuba. He highlighted the 1.6 million Cubans who have fled to Florida to escape the regime, asserting that the current government is no longer sustainable.
Donalds credited the administration’s leadership and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for shifting the regional dynamic, particularly concerning Venezuela, which he believes has further isolated Havana.
“The Cuban regime has been a communist dictatorship that has taken away liberty from Cubans,” Donalds said. While he expressed support for the Cuban people, he was uncompromising regarding the government’s future, stating it is time for the regime to “cut a deal” or face collapse. “It’s not going to be with a communist dictatorship 90 miles off the coast of Florida. It’s going to be with having an open society based upon individual liberty and property rights,” he added.
Closing his remarks on the matter, Donalds noted that the current leadership in Cuba has a choice: “The current regime can either negotiate or, quite frankly, they can die on the vine.”
