Congressman Donalds Pushes for Flood Insurance Relief, Defends “Big Beautiful Bill,” and Demands Answers on Biden Investigation
Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) appeared on Fox Business Network’s Varney & Co. today, articulating his legislative priorities and expressing concerns over ongoing national issues.
The discussion centered on his proposed “Flood Insurance Relief Act,” the positive impacts of the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” and the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s probe into former President Biden’s cognitive abilities and the alleged use of an autopen for official documents.
Congressman Donalds highlighted his leadership of H.R. 4494, “The Flood Insurance Relief Act,” emphasizing the urgent need to alleviate the financial burden on homeowners facing escalating flood insurance premiums.

“We want to be able to provide some relief to homeowners,” Donalds stated, noting that these are predominantly federal insurance plans from NFIP and that prices have significantly risen under the previous administration.
The bill, which he is championing alongside Senator Rick Scott and Senator Ashley Moody, aims to provide an above-the-line deduction for qualified flood insurance premiums, with income limitations to ensure the relief targets middle-class families.
This measure aims to provide direct financial relief to individuals and families struggling to make ends meet amid rising costs.

Shifting to broader economic policy, Donalds lauded the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” asserting that it has “provided major tax relief and stability to the American people.”
He specifically pointed to provisions related to Medicaid and SNAP, advocating for “simple things like work requirements and checking eligibility.”
Donalds remarked that these are “things that Bill Clinton agreed with when he was President. Things that Democrats, commonsense Democrats, used to go along with,” suggesting a bipartisan historical precedent for such measures.
The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” notably made permanent several tax changes from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, expanded Pell Grants for short-term workforce training, and introduced new accountability rules for colleges.

The interview also touched on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s investigation into former President Biden’s cognitive decline and his administration’s use of an autopen. Donalds expressed frustration with the lack of cooperation from certain individuals involved.
“What we’ve already heard from a couple of people in that [Biden] White House is that they don’t want to talk. They’re hiding behind the Fifth Amendment so they don’t incriminate themselves,” Donalds asserted.
He explicitly named former First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former Chief of Staff Jeff Zients as individuals who, in his opinion, “would have real answers” regarding the allegations.
This investigation continues to be a point of contention and scrutiny for House Republicans.
