Florida Rep. Luna Blasts FISA Plan, Demands Warrant Requirements And GOP Accountability

Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna appeared on “Live NOW from Fox” to address a brewing legislative showdown in the House, voicing sharp opposition to current strategies regarding FISA reauthorization and the Farm Bill.

Luna detailed a procedural move currently being considered by House leadership that would bundle three major pieces of legislation—FISA, the Farm Bill, and Reconciliation—under a single “rule” to expedite floor action. Luna expressed skepticism that the “clumping” of these distinct issues would succeed, labeling the trio “some of the messiest legislations” in Washington.

“I just called the Speaker, and I said, ‘Hey, I really think you need to separate these things out so that we can work on the amendment,’” Luna said. She emphasized that for FISA specifically, her support is contingent on a warrant requirement. “I don’t think it’s gonna get reauthorized in the House,” she added, predicting that if the bills remain merged, they are likely to fail.

The Congresswoman also raised alarms regarding the Farm Bill, specifically citing “side provisions” that she claims grant immunity to companies manufacturing glyphosate. “They’re giving immunity to companies… that were manufacturing glyphosate that’s known to cause cancer,” Luna stated. While she believes she has the votes to strip that provision, she noted the process has been met with significant pushback.

Beyond legislative hurdles, Luna turned her focus toward Senate Republican leadership, specifically targeting Senator John Thune. She alleged that Thune told her directly on the House floor that the Senate would not remove the filibuster to pass the SAVE Act—legislation aimed at requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration.

“I’m telling you directly about a conversation that was had on the floor,” Luna said. “If you’re not delivering for the American people, it is what it is… if they’re so serious and frustrated with his leadership, then maybe they need to vote on a new leader.”

Security concerns also dominated the discussion following a recent shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Luna criticized the security layout of the event, noting that while the ballroom was secure, the hotel itself remained vulnerable. She suggested that the White House Correspondents’ Association should “hire private contractors as well for security in addition to Secret Service” in the future.

Furthermore, Luna alleged a pattern of “partisan” behavior within the Capitol Police and even local law enforcement at the Tampa Airport. She claimed that some officers have been hesitant to intervene or provide security for Republican members. “Capitol Police has become very partisan,” Luna said. “If you are Republican, they don’t want to step in and intervene, or they will try to target you.”

The interview concluded with a brief discussion on Department of Justice priorities. Luna questioned the DOJ’s focus on a service member for insider trading while allegedly ignoring similar behavior within Congress.

“The DOJ truly wants to restore its reputation, they need to open up investigations into whoever in Congress is making multi-million dollar returns on their stock investments,” she concluded, promising a future floor vote on a bill to ban congressional insider trading.
