Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) is moving to force a historic vote in Congress on Saturday, announcing she will file a motion to expel Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) following a series of sexual assault and misconduct allegations against him.
“I am filing a motion to expel Eric Swalwell from Congress,” Luna wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. The move targets the California Democrat as he faces a Manhattan District Attorney probe into a 2024 hotel incident and accusations of inappropriate advances toward several women.
The push for expulsion represents the most severe disciplinary action available to the House of Representatives, requiring a two-thirds majority to succeed. Such a move is exceedingly rare; only six members have been expelled in U.S. history.

The most recent was George Santos (R-NY), who was ousted after an ethics review revealed he had falsified his background and misused campaign funds.
Luna’s effort against Swalwell is part of a broader push for accountability regarding member conduct. On Saturday, she also turned her attention to Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL), whom the House Ethics Committee recently found committed dozens of campaign finance violations.
“Sheila McCormick will be expelled by the end of the month if she does not resign now,” Luna posted. “The vote will be called. Resign.”
The Florida Republican is also pressing for action against Representative Tony Gonzales (R-TX). Luna has called for Gonzales to be censured and stripped of his committee assignments after leaked text messages allegedly showed him soliciting sexual material from a staffer. Gonzales has characterized the affair as a “mistake” but has pushed back against the specific descriptions of the messages.
While Swalwell continues to deny the allegations as “flat false” and “politically timed,” the pressure within his own party has reached a breaking point.

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Representative Adam Schiff have both called for him to end his bid for California governor and resign his seat.
If Luna’s motion reaches the floor, it will force a vote that could make Swalwell the seventh member ever removed from the chamber, occurring just as his gubernatorial campaign—once leading in the polls—has effectively ground to a halt.
