U.S. Congressman Brian Mast (FL-21) has introduced legislation to rename the United States Postal Service facility located at 290 NW Peacock Boulevard in Port St. Lucie, Florida, in honor of Trooper Zachary Fink, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty nearly a year ago.
The bill’s introduction coincided with Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, a national observance recognizing the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers across the country.
“Our community lost one of Florida’s finest last year,” Rep. Mast said in a statement. “We cannot repay his sacrifice, but we can ensure his memory lives on. Trooper Fink’s bravery and selflessness should inspire us all. He is a hero and should never be forgotten.”
Trooper Fink was killed on February 2, 2024, while in pursuit of a fleeing felon, Michael A. Addison, who had a lengthy criminal record, including burglary, grand theft, aggravated assault, and over $1,000 in outstanding traffic fines.

Dave Kerner, the executive director of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, praised Trooper Fink’s lifelong dedication to serving others. “Trooper Fink is a hero. Trooper Fink died in the line of duty,” said Kerner. “As his stepmother relates to me, since he was six years old, all he’s ever wanted to do was help people.”
Rep. Mast emphasized the importance of honoring Fink’s dedication to public safety, saying, “It is my hope that dedicating this facility in his honor will preserve his legacy for generations to come. Trooper Fink dedicated his life to making our community a safer place. He will be remembered as someone people could count on, a natural comedian who could de-escalate tense situations, and a hero deeply proud of his fellow law enforcement officers.”
The bill seeks to officially designate the postal facility as the “Trooper Zachary Fink Post Office Building.” According to the bill text, any references to the facility in law, maps, regulations, or official documents will be updated to reflect the new designation.
