Unemployment claims in Florida decreased last week, offering a positive sign for the state’s labor market as the Labor Day weekend approached.
The U.S. Department of Labor reported an estimated 5,932 claims filed in Florida, a drop from the revised count of 6,402 the previous week. This continues a trend of decreasing claims, with a four-week average of 6,403 new claims.

Florida’s unemployment rate held steady at 3.3% from April to July. The Florida Department of Commerce will release the August rate on September 20th.
The Department of Labor estimated 227,000 claims were filed last week nationally, a slight decrease from the previous week. The national unemployment rate in July stood at 4.3%.
This encouraging news suggests a positive trajectory for Florida’s job market as the state heads into the fall season.
