Sen. Ashley Moody met with Vice President JD Vance on Wednesday to discuss ongoing federal anti-fraud initiatives and potential legislative reforms during a meeting of the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud.
The discussion centered on tracking federal progress against fraud and identifying legislative measures designed to safeguard public funds. Moody, who was appointed to the U.S. Senate last year, has introduced or cosponsored more than a dozen anti-fraud bills during her tenure.
“From my time as Florida’s Attorney General to now serving in the United States Senate, I’ve made combatting fraud a major priority,” Moody said in a statement. “Whether it’s the purposeful targeting of senior’s retirement savings or scheming our taxpayer-funded programs, unaddressed fraud erodes trust in our institutions and hurts the people these programs are meant to serve.”
Moody emphasized the need for continued coordination across federal and state agencies to track emerging scams.
“I’ve been one of the Senate’s most active members when it comes to tackling fraud, so discussing ways we can address the issue with the Vice President at the White House’s Task Force to Eliminate Fraud was not only productive but served as a springboard for future cooperation and successful intergovernmental coordination in shutting down fraud where it may appear,” Moody said. “Fraudsters remain extremely cunning, so we must continue a whole of government approach in order to hold bad actors accountable and protect the integrity of our public programs.”
Over the past 18 months, Moody’s legislative work has targeted various sectors of financial and program fraud. Her introduced legislation includes the SWIPES Act, aimed at curbing gift card fraud, and the STOP Scams Against Seniors Act, which focuses on financial schemes targeting older Americans.
To address fraud in federal assistance and education, Moody introduced the Stop Child Care Scams Act alongside the No Aid for Ghost Students Act, which targets individuals using fake or stolen identities to obtain federal student financial aid through FAFSA applications. In healthcare, she introduced the Punishing Health Care Fraudsters Act to raise financial and criminal penalties for healthcare fraud.
Her legislative record also includes the Staged Accident Fraud Prevention Act, which establishes federal criminal penalties for intentionally causing motor vehicle accidents with commercial trucks to manipulate insurance claims.
In addition to her own bills, Moody joined the Senate Anti-Fraud Task Force to oversee federal spending and identify systemic vulnerabilities. She co-sponsored the SCAM Act, which allows for the revocation of citizenship for individuals naturalized through fraud or affiliated with terrorist groups, as well as the Protecting American Taxpayers Act, a 16-measure package projected to save $240 billion by stopping improper payments and recovering stolen funds.
