Florida Sen. Ashley Moody Lands Staggering $1.5 Billion Disaster Payday

Florida is set to receive a massive influx of federal aid after Senator Ashley Moody announced the successful securing of more than $1.5 billion in FEMA disaster recovery funding. The money, totaling exactly $1,563,897,520, will be distributed across the state to reimburse communities for expenses tied to multiple disasters spanning the past several years.

The funding is designed to cover a wide range of recovery efforts, including debris removal, critical infrastructure restoration, repairs to educational facilities, and emergency costs incurred to protect life and property. The grants will be funneled through FEMA’s Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Assistance programs, supporting more than 500 local recovery projects.

“I came to Washington to fight for Florida’s best interest, which is why I’m proud to announce the successful recovery of more than $1.5 Billion in FEMA reimbursements for Florida communities hit hard by disasters,” Senator Moody said. “This is money that has been slow-walked and tangled in our federal government – I’m cutting through bureaucracy and getting things done for Florida.”

The rollout comes as part of a ongoing collaboration between Florida officials and the Department of Homeland Security. Under DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin, the federal government has already approved 397 individual FEMA projects for the state, which previously supplied over $847 million in federal assistance. These new grants will combine with those prior funds to fast-track municipal repairs.

“Under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump, FEMA is committed to cutting red tape and getting resources directly to the American people and communities who need them most,” Secretary Mullin stated. “Senator Moody has been a great partner in our efforts to slash bureaucracy, strengthen accountability, and ensure rapid, effective recovery for Floridians. I want to thank her for fighting alongside us to get this disaster recovery funding across the finish line.”

The billion-dollar package allocates money directly to local governments for specific recovery tasks. Among the hundreds of projects receiving chunk sums from the reimbursement fund are:

  • $17.2 million for countywide contracted debris removal in Sarasota
  • $6.6 million for citywide debris removal in Tallahassee
  • $4.1 million for dune engineering in Brevard County
  • $4.1 million for beach walkways and seawall projects in Clearwater
  • $2.2 million for marina seawall projects in Dunedin
  • $721,822 for power restoration in Columbia County
  • $617,987 for parking lot repairs in Madeira Beach
  • $617,068 for wastewater plant repairs in Lynn Haven
  • $167,955 for roads and stormwater projects in Seminole County

The total funds will be disbursed directly to the state and local municipalities to finalize these and other pending recovery operations.
