U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody met with members of the Florida Farm Bureau Federation during a teletown hall on Tuesday to discuss federal policy and hear directly from local growers, ranchers, and farmers about the issues affecting the state’s agricultural sector.
During the event, Moody provided updates on several legislative initiatives she has introduced in Washington aimed at easing regulatory requirements and providing financial protections for growers.
“Florida’s farmers feed not only our Sunshine State, but our nation, and they deserve a partner in the Senate who understands what they’re up against,” Moody said. “It was great to hear directly from Florida Farm Bureau members today and to update them on my work. I’ll keep fighting to cut the red tape and outdated regulations standing between our growers and their success.”
Moody’s current legislative efforts in the Senate include the Defending Domestic Orange Juice Production Act, which seeks to update federal production standards originally established in the 1960s.
She has also sponsored the Land Grant Research Prioritization Act, a bipartisan measure intended to direct U.S. Department of Agriculture research funding toward precision agriculture technologies designed to help farmers manage extreme weather events, including freezes, droughts, and hurricanes.
In addition, Moody partnered with Rep. Scott Franklin to introduce the Temperature Event Mitigation Policy (TEMP) Act. If passed, the legislation would require the USDA to study and create affordable crop insurance programs specifically tailored for agricultural losses tied to freezing temperatures and sudden cold weather events.
