Florida Sen. Ashley Moody’s Resolution Puts Fatherhood In The Congressional Spotlight

THE BREAKDOWN: Ahead of Father’s Day, Senator Ashley Moody introduced a formal resolution in Washington to honor the role of fathers in American families. The legislative push coincides with a committee vote to advance federal funding for national fatherhood and family support programs.

With Father’s Day tomorrow, Capitol Hill took a moment this week to focus on the impact of dads across the country. Senator Ashley Moody introduced Senate Resolution 773, an official measure to recognize the vital role fathers play in shaping families and communities.

The resolution follows a series of remarks delivered by Moody on the Senate floor, where she highlighted the personal and societal value of fatherhood.

During her speech, the senator drew on her own life, pointing to her father’s influence on her values of service and leadership, and speaking about her husband, Justin, who balances long hours as a law enforcement officer with raising their sons.

“As Father’s Day approaches, I’ve been reflecting on the importance of dads. My husband, Justin, works long hours as a law enforcement officer, protecting our community, serving others, and still being there for our sons. Helping with homework, supporting their activities, and modeling what it looks like to be a good man and great husband. It’s important to support and encourage our dads across the country who are building the character of our next generation of Americans,” Moody said.

Beyond the symbolic resolution, the legislative push included a policy step this week. Moody voted to advance the Healthy Start Reauthorization Act of 2025 out of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.

The bill, which is now headed to the full Senate floor for consideration, authorizes federal funding for several community-focused initiatives. Among these are the Healthy Start Initiative and the National Fatherhood Initiatives, both of which provide resources designed to support American families and assist fathers in their parenting roles.
