Senator Ashley Moody publicly praised President Donald Trump’s recent decision to deploy U.S. warships to Venezuela, a move aimed at stopping the flow of illegal drugs into the United States.
During a news conference in Miami with Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and Sara Carter, the nominee for Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, Senator Moody hailed the action as a strong step toward combating narcotrafficking.

The event also served to highlight the recent passage of the HALT Fentanyl Act, a piece of legislation Moody co-sponsored. The new law imposes strict penalties on individuals trafficking fentanyl-related substances, with offenses involving 100 grams or more now carrying a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years.
Senator Moody stated the law, along with President Trump’s border security efforts, sends a clear message that “America’s days of turning a blind eye to drug trafficking are over.”
Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz expressed her office’s commitment to working with state and federal partners to combat the fentanyl crisis and thanked Senator Moody for her leadership, noting that the new law provides a critical tool to hold traffickers accountable.

Moody has long been a vocal advocate for aggressive measures against fentanyl. As Florida’s Attorney General, she previously called for illicit fentanyl to be classified as a weapon of mass destruction and for Mexican drug cartels to be designated as terrorist organizations.
Her past initiatives include the creation of Dose of Reality Florida, an educational campaign on the dangers of opioid use, and the Helping Heroes program, which provides free naloxone to law enforcement and first responders.
The news conference took place just ahead of National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day on August 21, a day dedicated to remembering victims and raising public awareness about the ongoing crisis.
