Florida Sen. Moody Moves To Kill ‘Daily Billion-Dollar Heist’ With Massive Anti-Fraud Blitz

Senator Ashley Moody is throwing her weight behind a sweeping legislative package aimed at clawing back stolen funds and slamming the door on criminals who exploit federal programs.

The Protecting American Taxpayers Act, a bundle of 16 different bills, is projected to save the United States roughly $240 billion by tightening oversight and increasing transparency across multiple government agencies.

The push for reform comes in the wake of significant financial scandals, including widespread fraud in Minnesota, which highlighted a staggering national trend where an estimated $1.4 billion is siphoned away from taxpayers every single day.

“The widespread fraud uncovered in Minnesota cannot be ignored,” Senator Moody said in a statement. “We owe it to the American taxpayers to be good stewards of their tax dollars and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse. The Protecting American Taxpayers Act aims to do just that by improving government transparency to help make sure public funds go where they’re intended.”

The legislative package targets several high-priority areas of government spending. Key provisions include the “Stop Fraud Before Payment Act,” which shifts government payments to a reimbursement-only model to ensure services are actually rendered before money changes hands.

Another significant component, the “Returning Unspent COVID Funds Act,” seeks to recover more than $65 billion in pandemic-era funding that remains sitting in accounts.

The act also addresses modern threats and international security. It includes the “Preventing Deep Fake Scams Act,” which creates a task force to fight AI-driven fraud, and the “No Tax Dollars for Terrorists Act,” designed to prevent the Taliban from accessing cash assistance in Afghanistan.

To ensure accountability, the package extends the statutes of limitations for COVID-related fraud, giving law enforcement more time to track down and prosecute those who illegally benefited from emergency programs.

It also incentivizes government workers to speak up through the “Bonuses for Cost-Cutters Act,” which allows Inspectors General to reward employees who identify and report internal fraud.

This support follows Moody’s previous efforts to secure public funds, including her introduction of the STOP FRAUD in Medicaid Act. That earlier legislation focused on empowering state units to investigate both fraudulent providers and individuals making false claims within the healthcare system.
