During a Monday morning appearance on Fox Business, U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) stated that President Donald Trump will likely need to launch military strikes against Iran to reopen global oil supply routes, while placing blame for the current geopolitical tension on former President Joe Biden.
The discussion, hosted by anchor Maria Bartiromo, centered on the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz and a recent social media post by President Trump on Truth Social, where he warned Tehran that “the clock is ticking” and “there won’t be anything left of them” if they do not act quickly. Bartiromo noted that Trump had previously discussed the conflict with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a summit, where both leaders agreed the shipping strait must reopen.
Before turning to Scott, Bartiromo aired a clip from Friday featuring Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA), who advocated for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict and the removal of Iran’s enriched uranium.

“We need to negotiate to get their enriched uranium out,” Khanna said in the clip. “We’ve had these conversations before about the JCPOA and how President Obama got 97% out. I don’t want to re-litigate it, but the point is that there are a lot of people who want to see a negotiated settlement. I hope you’d talk to Xi Jinping about his involvement in getting a negotiated settlement, get the enriched uranium and keep the Strait of Hormuz open, and make sure that the war ends because it’s literally hurting American farmers, American consumers’ price of food, price of gas, and it’s preventing the Fed from doing what the president wants, which is cut rates.”
When asked for his response to Khanna’s remarks, Scott defended the administration’s current pressure tactics and dismissed China’s reliability as a negotiating partner, pointing to intellectual property theft and the fentanyl crisis.
“Well, first off, President Trump is busting his butt,” Scott said. “Does he want the Strait of Hormuz closed? No. But his one is killed by a nuclear weapon? Absolutely not. So he’s doing the right thing by making sure we all don’t get killed by a nuclear weapon.”

Scott expressed skepticism regarding diplomatic assistance from President Xi, calling the Chinese leader “a liar” who is “never going to help us with anything.” He argued that military action would ultimately be required to resolve the standoff with Iran.
“Ultimately, what I think has to happen here is Trump is going to have to go in and bomb the daylights out of Iran,” Scott stated. “To hopefully finally get a regime that wants to work with them and stop this ‘death to America, death to everybody in the Middle East’ attitude. So it’s a tough time and Biden left him in a horrible situation in Iran and economy and Trump is busting his butt to fix it.”
