U.S. Senator Rick Scott released a statement Sunday morning following news of the sudden passing of fellow U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham.
Scott, a Florida Republican, expressed immediate shock over the unexpected loss of the veteran South Carolina lawmaker, offering condolences alongside his wife.
“Anne and I are shocked and heartbroken to learn of the passing of Senator Lindsey Graham,” Scott said in the official release. “We ask that you join us in keeping his family, friends, and team in your prayers during this time.”
Graham, who served in both chambers of Congress over a multi-decade career in Washington, was widely recognized for his prominent roles in national security discussions and his service as an Air Force lawyer.
In his remarks, Scott highlighted Graham’s background and his rise from modest beginnings to the upper echelons of American government.
“Lindsey was a good friend and a dedicated public servant for the people of South Carolina and the United States,” Scott stated. “He knew what it was like to rise up from difficult circumstances and build a life of purpose.”
Scott further emphasized Graham’s consistent focus on international affairs and defense policy throughout his years of public service.
“Through his time in the Air Force and in Congress, Lindsey dedicated his career to America’s national defense and freedom around the world,” Scott said. “I was grateful to work with him. He will be greatly missed as a legislator and a friend.”
Funeral arrangements and official memorial services have not yet been announced.
