As Chairman of the Senate Seapower Subcommittee, Scott reinforces military and economic ties to counter the growing threat of Communist China.
In an effort to fortify American interests and alliances in the Indo-Pacific, Senator Rick Scott recently concluded a strategic trip to Japan and the Philippines. The visit, undertaken in his capacity as Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Seapower, focused on strengthening crucial military and economic relationships in the region.
Senator Scott’s tour comes as the United States and its allies continue to address what he described as the “encroaching influence and threat of Communist China.” The trip underscored the importance of a strong, unified front to ensure regional stability and global security.

During his time abroad, Scott met with a number of key leaders and stakeholders. In the Philippines, he was hosted by U.S. Ambassador MaryKay L. Carson and held discussions with Philippine National Defense Secretary Teodoro. In Japan, Senator Scott and his wife, Ann, met with U.S. Ambassador George Glass and visited with American service members stationed in Okinawa. The Senator expressed his gratitude to the troops, highlighting their “crucial role in protecting the region and the globe against the threat of Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party.”
A key component of the visit was a focus on military readiness and economic cooperation. Senator Scott inspected the U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center to discuss the ongoing development of these critical relationships. He also met with economic leaders to explore mutually beneficial enterprises, including the development of Subic Bay and enhanced trade relations.

“I had the great opportunity to visit Japan and the Philippines, two of our most vital allies in our fight against the encroaching influence and threat of Communist China on the global stage,” Senator Scott stated. “As the Chair of the Senate Armed Services’ Subcommittee on Seapower, I know it is more important than ever that we join with our allies in the region to push back and contain this threat.”
The Senator’s visit is aligned with the Trump administration’s “Peace Through Strength” policy, which seeks to project American power and deter adversaries through a robust military and strong alliances.
Senator Scott affirmed his commitment to this approach, stating, “Thankfully, we have President Trump in the White House, who is fully committed to ensuring the United States has the strongest military force, enforcing Peace Through Strength, and working with our allies to protect America’s best interests around the world.”
The trip also held personal significance for the Senator and his wife.
Ann Scott, whose father served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines, paid her respects at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial. Senator Scott emphasized that his visit reinforced his conviction that the U.S. “cannot take its eyes off this region or the increased aggression shown by Communist China and the threat it poses to our economy, our military, and the world.”
