The Florida Senate is expected to vote Thursday on high-profile proposals that would revamp laws about concealed weapons and the death penalty.

Senators could give final approval to a bill (HB 543) that would allow people to carry firearms without concealed weapons licenses.

The House voted 76-32 last week to pass the bill, which also includes changes related to school safety.

Meanwhile, the Senate is poised to vote on a bill (SB 450) that would eliminate a requirement for unanimous jury recommendations before judges can impose death sentences.

The bill would allow death sentences to be imposed based on the recommendations of eight of 12 jurors — reversing a change made in 2017 that required unanimity.

The House Judiciary Committee is scheduled Friday to take up the House version of the bill (HB 555).

The Senate took up the gun and death-penalty issues during a floor session Wednesday and positioned them for votes.
