The state-backed Citizens Property Insurance Corp. continued to add thousands of policies a week in February and neared 800,000 overall policies, according to newly reported numbers.
Citizens had 792,616 policies as of Feb. 28, up from 776,790 at the end of January. Citizens has seen explosive growth over the past two years as private insurers have raised rates and shed policies because of financial problems.
As illustrations of the growth, Citizens had 552,340 policies on Feb. 28, 2021, and 443,522 policies at the end of February 2020, according to the numbers posted on the Citizens website.
