A 19-year-old Indialantic man is behind bars without bond after a grisly discovery in a desolate stretch of Florida land known as “The Compound” led investigators back to his front door. Lucas Jones faces charges of second-degree murder, abuse of a dead body, and tampering with evidence following the discovery of the dismembered remains of 29-year-old Colie Lee Daniel.
The case began on March 29 when Palm Bay police were summoned to an abandoned, 200-mile grid of paved roads and overgrown fields.
A witness reported seeing a suitcase on the ground surrounded by vultures. Upon arrival, officers encountered a foul odor and discovered human remains packed inside a black suitcase hidden in the brush. A second suitcase containing further remains was located nearby.
A crucial break in the case came from an unlikely piece of evidence found within the luggage: an Amazon delivery package addressed to Lucas Jones at his Indialantic residence.

While Jones remained silent during a police search of his home, an arrest affidavit details a shifting story from his girlfriend.
Initially, she claimed Daniel had simply been sleeping at the house before leaving. However, she later retracted that statement, telling detectives that Jones had coached her on what to say. According to her updated account, she arrived at the home to find blood on the floor and Jones wearing blood-stained jeans.
Court documents reveal a motive rooted in targeted violence. The girlfriend told investigators that Jones admitted to killing Daniel with a baseball bat and dismembering the body using a cleaver, saw, and knife because Daniel was a registered sex offender.
Records confirm Daniel was convicted in 2018 of lewd and lascivious battery on a victim between the ages of 12 and 15. The girlfriend noted that Jones had recently printed out a list of local sex offenders, a document his mother allegedly threw away shortly before the police search.
Medical examiners described the scene inside the suitcases as “experimental dismemberment” and “extreme mutilation.” The autopsy also noted blunt force trauma to Daniel’s head and defensive wounds on his arms, suggesting a struggle before his death.
Jones was formally charged on April 1. He is currently being held in custody as the legal process moves forward.
