MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – An 18-year-old angler from Homestead was issued a mandatory court summons Friday morning after Monroe County authorities found him in possession of undersized fish near Snake Creek Bridge.
Marine Deputy Nelson Sanchez was patrolling the area around 8 a.m. on Aug. 7, 2026, when he spotted Jordan Orante-Portillo fishing near the bridge.
During a routine inspection, Deputy Sanchez discovered that Orante-Portillo was in possession of two undersized schoolmaster snapper.
According to law enforcement, the teenager was using one of the illegally harvested fish as bait on his hook.
Deputy Sanchez issued Orante-Portillo a mandatory notice to appear citation for the wildlife violation.
