Florida’s unemployment claims have fallen to their lowest point since late September, indicating a continued recovery in the state’s labor market following the impacts of Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
The U.S. Department of Labor reported that 6,013 first-time unemployment claims were filed in Florida during the week ending November 16th, down from a revised count of 6,660 the previous week. This marks the lowest number of claims since the week ending September 28th, just before Hurricane Helene made landfall.

The state experienced temporary increases in unemployment claims following Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which struck Florida in September and October, respectively. Claims peaked at 10,800 during the week ending October 19th.
Florida maintained a 3.3 percent unemployment rate from April through October, demonstrating resilience despite the challenges posed by the hurricanes.
Nationally, unemployment claims also decreased last week, dropping to 213,000 from a revised count of 219,000 the previous week.
