A Florida woman is facing an attempted murder charge after authorities say she made multiple attempts on her husband’s life following an alleged threat to kill their son.

Karen Ruth Dedert, 58, of Seminole, is accused of one count of attempted murder in the first degree with a domestic-related component, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived at the couple’s Tara Cay Court home on Tuesday morning around 8:15 a.m. after receiving a report of an ongoing assault. The husband was found outside, suffering a laceration to his left forearm.

According to an arrest affidavit, the harrowing incident began hours earlier, around 5 a.m., when Dedert allegedly woke her husband to ask about their son’s whereabouts, stating, “I need to sacrifice and kill you both.”

The victim claims his wife then tried to stab him with a large knife, but he managed to disarm her and shelter in a downstairs bedroom.

The violence allegedly escalated around 7:45 a.m. The husband was ambushed by Dedert, who allegedly emerged from behind a refrigerator, aiming another knife at his abdomen. During the struggle, in which the defendant reportedly yelled, “I’m going to kill you,” the husband sustained a cut to his arm before once again disarming his wife and escaping the house to call 911.

Dedert was detained at the scene. She was booked into the Pinellas County Jail, initially without bond, but was granted $100,000 bond on Wednesday with conditions including GPS monitoring and no contact with her husband.
