A Florida woman faces a felony charge after authorities said she stabbed a friend with a pair of scissors because he would not let her drink a beer inside an Uber vehicle.
Lynn Marie Zamora, 32, was arrested Monday, July 13, and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to Miami-Dade County jail records.
The incident occurred as Zamora and the victim were sharing a rideshare vehicle to a friend’s house. According to an arrest affidavit, a deputy with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Southwest 137th Avenue and Southwest 74th Street in Miami.
The victim told law enforcement that Zamora grew irritated when he repeatedly told her she could not consume alcohol during the ride. The affidavit states that Zamora then pulled a pair of scissors from her purse and stabbed the man in his left bicep and left calf, breaking the skin.
The Uber driver witnessed the altercation and confirmed the victim’s account to responding officers. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where medical staff treated his injuries.
Uber’s corporate community guidelines strictly prohibit open containers of alcohol and drug use by passengers inside any vehicle operating on its platform.
Zamora made her initial court appearance on Tuesday, July 14. During the hearing, her defense attorney requested that she receive hospital treatment. The state prosecutor argued for a monetary bond, stating that Zamora has a prior criminal record and poses a flight risk.
Zamora is currently held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. A judge set her bond at $7,500.
