A Florida woman was arrested on Friday for disclosing information and introducing contraband into her place of work, the jail.

According to Baker County Sheriff’s Office, a civilian employee of the Baker County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) was arrested as a result of an ongoing criminal investigation within the Baker County Detention Center (BCDC).

Through the course of the investigation, jail inspectors learned that Evelyn Rhodes, a Control Room Operator who worked for several years in the jail, developed an inappropriate relationship with an inmate housed in the facility.

Information gathered by inspectors revealed that Rhodes had been providing the inmate with illegal contraband and privileged information only accessible to an employee of BCSO and indirect interference with an active investigation(s).

On Friday morning, Rhodes was intercepted by jail inspectors and BCSO detectives as she entered the facility.

After being questioned by the investigators, Rhodes was placed under arrest and charged with disclosing confidential criminal justice information (felony) and two counts of introduction of contraband into a detention facility (misdemeanor).

Baker County Sheriff Rhoden said, “This arrest is disturbing and disappointing as this individual was trusted to serve and protect the citizens of Baker County and failed us. I am committed to the safety and security of both staff and inmates within the BCDC.”
