A Monday night robbery on East State Road 80 took a dark turn this week as Hendry County investigators revealed the victim’s own wife allegedly masterminded the violent encounter. What began as a report of a random home invasion ended Wednesday with the arrest of 64-year-old Flora Norys Gonzalez and two accomplices.
The incident unfolded late Monday night, April 27, when deputies arrived to find a 52-year-old man who had been severely beaten. The victim told authorities he was sitting outside his home when two men in hoodies and masks ambushed him.
According to official reports, the attackers shoved the man to the ground and repeatedly struck him in the face with a handgun while demanding cash. The suspects then used zip ties to bind his hands and feet.

The victim’s wife initially told deputies she had witnessed the assault from inside and ran out to help, only to be held at knifepoint by one of the men. She claimed she was forced back into the house, where she handed over $18,000 in cash to get the attackers to leave.
However, the story began to fracture as detectives noticed “a number of inconsistencies” in her account. Under questioning, Gonzalez reportedly admitted she knew one of the suspects and had helped coordinate the attack on her husband.
She told investigators the plan spiraled out of control, and she eventually offered the men the cash to stop them from continuing the physical assault on her spouse.
On April 29, detectives moved in to arrest Gonzalez along with 48-year-old Jose Enrique Calafet Perez and 42-year-old Maykel Calafet Calderon.

All three face a heavy list of charges, including Aggravated Battery Causing Bodily Harm, Armed Robbery, Armed Burglary, and False Imprisonment. Calderon faces an additional charge of Grand Theft.
The trio is currently being held at the Hendry County Jail. As of Thursday morning, all three suspects are being detained without bond.
