A 44-year-old woman is in custody facing murder charges after police say she fatally stabbed a 69-year-old man last week in Northwest Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Teri Owens. She was arrested following an investigation into the death of David Spivey.

According to police reports, District 6 officers were dispatched to a home in the area of West 30th Street and Grand Park on Friday, December 26, regarding a reported stabbing. Upon arrival, first responders found Spivey suffering from a stab wound to the chest.

He was transported to a local hospital for emergency surgery, but did not survive his injuries.

JSO Homicide detectives assumed control of the case, processed the scene, and conducted interviews. Investigators said evidence gathered quickly pointed to Owens as the suspect. She was subsequently located and arrested for Spivey’s murder on Tuesday.

In a statement regarding the arrest, officials emphasized that the investigation is still active, noting that detectives will “continue to seek justice for Spivey’s friends and family.”
