A Florida woman’s attempt to purchase drugs took an unexpected turn when she mistakenly texted a narcotics investigator instead of her dealer, leading to her arrest.
According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, 41-year-old Octavia Wells sent a text message on New Year’s Eve seeking to buy fentanyl. Unbeknownst to her, the recipient of the message was an undercover narcotics investigator.

The investigator, seizing the opportunity, engaged in communication with Wells, posing as a drug dealer and agreeing to set up a sale.
On January 6th, Wells arrived at a gas station for the pre-arranged meeting, only to be met by several investigators from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Division.
Wells was arrested on charges of:
- Unlawful use of a two-way communication device
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Driving with a suspended or revoked license
