Investigation Reveals Extreme Conditions Led to Pet’s Demise
A Florida woman is facing a felony aggravated animal cruelty charge following a months-long investigation into the death of her 8-year-old terrier-beagle mix, Dexter.
Kedine AnnMarie Trudeau, 42, of Immokalee, was arrested Friday by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) Animal Cruelty Investigations Alliance after it was determined her dog died from extreme neglect.
The investigation began on May 6 when a witness discovered Dexter deceased in a small outdoor crate at Trudeau’s residence. According to authorities, Dexter’s head was found wedged between the crate’s door and frame, seemingly as he attempted to reach a water bowl placed just outside.

The crate was positioned in direct sunlight, offering no shade or water.
Trudeau reportedly admitted to placing Dexter in the crate around 9 a.m. that day, intending to check on him later. However, she was informed by the witness at 3:25 p.m. that Dexter had died.
A necropsy performed by Dr. John Morton, chief medical officer for the Patty Baker Humane Society Naples, concluded that Dexter likely succumbed to acute dehydration or heat stroke. On the day of Dexter’s death, the outdoor temperature reached 88 degrees. Investigators noted that black crates exposed to direct sunlight can reach internal temperatures of up to 115 degrees.

Further investigation by detectives revealed a pattern of neglect, indicating that Dexter was frequently confined for extended periods under similar harsh conditions. Authorities concluded that the dog suffered and ultimately died while attempting to escape the crate due to the lack of adequate shelter and water.
Trudeau has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty and is currently being held at the Collier County Jail.
