A 38-year-old Florida woman was found dead in her home last Friday evening, with officials believing a violent attack by four dogs caused her death.
Daytona Beach Police (DBPD) responded to a home around 7 p.m. after the victim’s boyfriend called 911. He became concerned after he was unable to reach her by phone and arrived at her residence to find her unresponsive on the floor.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, identified as Monica Emerson, with severe injuries consistent with an animal attack. Four dogs were found running freely inside the house: one large, mixed-breed male and three of his offspring, according to DBPD.

Investigators found no evidence of foul play or human involvement. While the investigation remains active, police currently believe Emerson may have suffered a medical emergency that left her unconscious, at which point the dogs fatally attacked her.
The police department did not release any further details regarding the breed of the dogs or whether they belonged to Ms. Emerson.
Animal control took custody of the four dogs, which were transported to Volusia County Animal Control Services. The animals will be held for 10 days before being euthanized.
DBPD says, “No evidence of human-related foul play has been found, and the investigation remains active.”
