The holiday season brought a massive surprise for a Boynton Beach resident this year. Yvonne Hill-Mckinnie, 59, is the newest millionaire in the state after claiming a top prize from the Florida Lottery just days before Christmas. The Florida Lottery announced the win Tuesday.

Hill-Mckinnie traveled to the Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee on December 22 to verify her win. She won playing the $1,000,000 HOLIDAY CA$H scratch-off game. When it came time to collect the prize, she had a choice between annual payments or a one-time check. She decided to take the money all at once. After the standard withholdings, she walked away with a lump sum of $606,700.

The lucky ticket was found at a local grocery store. Hill-Mckinnie purchased the scratch-off at the Publix located at 6627 Boynton Beach Boulevard in her hometown.

The game she played costs $20 per ticket and offers a top prize of $1 million.

According to the Lottery, the overall odds of winning any prize in that specific game are about 1-in-2.68. Scratch-off tickets like this one are very popular in the state, making up nearly 74 percent of ticket sales for the recent fiscal year.

A portion of every ticket sold goes toward the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund, which helps support Florida schools and the Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
