Darryl Getman, 83, and his wife Sharon Getman, 80 were found murdered in their home in Mt. Dora on December 31, 2022.

The Getmans’ children, Anthony and Brittany Getman, said in a statement released by the police department, “We are stunned, devastated, and heartbroken by the horrific murder of our parents.”

“Mom and Dad had been residents of Mount Dora for over 20 years and truly loved the area,” they said. “They were enjoying their golden years staying active and spending time with their many friends.”

The State Attorney’s Office for the 5th Judicial Circuit announced they will seek the death penalty in this case if Williams is found guilty for the following reasons:

  • Williams was previously convicted of a violent or threatening felony
  • The murder of the victims, ages 80 and 83, was done during the commission of a robbery
  • The killings were committed for financial gain
  • The crimes were “especially heinous, atrocious or cruel;”
  • The victims were particularly vulnerable because of their ages
