A Florida woman just proved that a quick stop for gas can lead to a life-changing payday. Brenda Larry, of Monticello, recently walked into the Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee to claim a $1 million prize from the 500X THE CASH scratch-off game.
Larry opted to take her winnings as a single, lump-sum payment of $640,000. The winning ticket was sold at the Pit Stop located at 1546 N. Jefferson Street in Monticello.
While many people dream of hitting it big through sheer chance, Larry sees her win as something more intentional.
“You have to play to win, and I don’t rely on luck. I move with purpose, and I’m truly blessed,” she said while claiming her prize.

The $50 game Larry played is known for offering the state’s highest top prize of $25 million. According to Florida Lottery officials, the game boasts more than $1.66 billion in total cash prizes and offers 1-in-4.23 overall odds of winning.
Scratch-offs like the one Larry played are the primary engine for the Florida Lottery, making up roughly 74 percent of all ticket sales during the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
Beyond creating over 2,400 millionaires since their inception, these games have a broader impact on the community, generating more than $20.98 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund to support Florida students.
