A Florida woman claimed a $1,000,000 prize from a lottery-scratch-off ticket that she nearly threw away.
According to the Florida Lottery, Jill Rowell of Grand Ridge almost threw her winning ticket in the trash when a bystander said she should take a second look.
“I scanned the ticket at the machine, and you could say it was definitely a ‘spectacular’ surprise! I drove straight here, and yes, I want a picture.” In the midst of shock and laughter, Rowell shared with lottery officials that she was actually about to throw her Scratch-Off in the trash when an onlooker suggested she take a second look at her ticket.
Rowell purchased her winning ticket from Super Snead’s at 8022 Highway 90 in Sneads, Florida. The retailer will receive a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning Scratch-Off ticket.
“Remember to always double-check your tickets,” said the Florida Lottery in a tweet.
The $50 Scratch-Off game, $1,000,000 A YEAR FOR LIFE SPECTACULAR, launched in February and features two top prizes of $1 million a year for life and 234 prizes of $1 million!
This ticket is also filled with more than $1.6 billion in cash prizes! The game’s overall odds of winning are 1-in-4.50.
Scratch-Off games are an important part of the Lottery’s portfolio of games, comprising approximately 77 percent of ticket sales in fiscal year 2021-2022. Since inception, Scratch-Off games have generated more than $17.69 billion for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF).
